Nollywood films serve as means for vilifying domestic violence. However, not much research efforts have been directed towards exploring how domestic violence is represented in Nollywood movies. Therefore, this study carried out a critical stylo-pragmatic analysis of verbal domestic violence in selected Nollywood movies. The Theory of Critical Stylistics and Politeness Theory guided the analysis. The study used qualitative content analysis as research design. Data were derived from four purposively selected Nollywood movies: Married but Living Single, Mr and Mrs, Unforgivable, and Dry. Findings of the study revealed that perpetrators use some verbal modes of domestic violence in the selected Nollywood movies including verbal invectives, offensive expressions, ad hominem, sarcasm, pejorative questions, sweeping statements, condescension, dehumanization, personality denunciation, stereotyping, discerning attribution, superfluous representations, sweeping generalisation, hyperbolic metaphor, negative lexicalisation, name-calling, verbal bullying, guilt by association, threats and slippery slope. The study concluded that domestic violence as represented in Nollywood is a reflection of the realities of Nigerian societies.
